Autumn of the patriarch and other poems is a bi-lingual collection of poems which intends to show the ruthless exploitation and absolute power over Latin American people carried out by a callous and peevish politician, that of the the General (Zacarias) who has been portrayed as a stereotypical Caribbean dictator. The collection also endeavors to scrutinize the structure of totalitarian dictatorships in general, and reveal the patriarch’s distorted mentally, his insanity and audacity, as well as his boorish and hideous sexuality in particular, which are almost anti-human as they all rise out of a last for power. Last but not the least, the book comprises a fundamental annexe to the need of Marquez scholars, as well as, common readers, inquisitive about the nature and functions of an authoritarian ruler, will find it expedient and enchanting.
