Number 13 Writing Histories for Indian Cinema: Chapter 2 Edited by Moinak Biswas This particular issue of the 'Journal of the Moving Image', emerged from the Department of Film Studies (Jadavpur University), was conceived as a sequel to No. 9 of the journal ('Writing Histories for Indian Cinema'). This is the second chapter of the 'Writing Histories' conference to get an overview of the work in Indian film history and historiography accomplished in the intervening years and the papers present a vibrant picture of the field. The essays give a sense of the many directions and the exciting nature of the history writing initiatives in Indian film scholarship. They cover Bengal, Bombay, Maharashtra and cinema from South India, ranging from close film analysis to generic survey to history of cinema halls to arguments about historiography.
