Tagore and the Visva Bharati C. F. ANDREWS Among Rabindranath's friends from the West, none was associated with him for a longer period than C.F. Andrews (1871 - 1940). His love and respect for the poet was part of his general attitude to India. A close friend of both Rabindranath and Gandhiji, two great leaders of modern India, many of his essays show a close affinity to the poet and the ideal of Visva - Bharati. These have been collected together for the first time in the present volume. Additionally it contains a detailed introduction on the relationship between Andrews and Rabindranath and how each influenced the other in turn. A special feature of the book is a large number of letters written by Andrews to Rabindranath in the first phase of their friendship before the First World War.
